Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does it take to install the Automatic Braking System?
It depends on the vehicle and how familiar the technician is with the installation process. The first installation always takes the longest, but once the technician understands the process, it moves along much faster. Short answer: For a Global 3-sensor system, anywhere from 3-4 hours.
  • Is the Global Automatic Braking System plug and play, or do we need to supply our own parts?
The Global Automatic Braking System is an add-on product. It enhances the function and safety of the already existing vehicle. Keeping in mind that one size does not fit all, Global made a product that was versatile enough to be compatible with all air brake commercial vehicles. We provide the essential parts but leave it up to the technician or mechanic working with the vehicles on a regular basis to provide parts like brake lines and certain fittings.
  • The sensor went off and triggered the braking system when the vehicle was more than 6 feet away from an object. Is it broken?
Short answer: No. The sensor works fine! The sensor system is an infrared technology with precision accuracy. The light goes out, bounces off an object and returns to the sensor instantaneously. The sensor is more sensitive to reflective materials (vests, road signs, etc) and bright white objects with larger surface areas. If your brakes are triggered beyond 6 feet, it is likely because the sensor beam picked up on a reflective or bright white surface.
  • How do you line up the Automatic Reverse Braking Sensors correctly?
For this task, you will need a measuring tape and a laser pointer. Imitate the flight line of the infrared sensor by placing the laser on the sensor pointing out (Global offers a laser alignment tool specifically for this purpose). The ideal measurements are 6 feet out and 25 inches high.
  • How do I know where to mount the valves when attaching them to the air brake line?
The belly of the vehicle is vulnerable and susceptible to rust, especially if you drive in environments that include salt. Before you mount anything, do a thorough assessment of your vehicle. Take a flashlight to the undercarriage and look for an area that offers the most protection with a secure place to attach the mount we include with the valves. Beams and walls are your best bet. Some fabrication may be required.
  • I just installed the Automatic Braking Sensors. Why isn't my sensor lighting up?
Remember, the sensor only engages when the vehicle is put in REVERSE. The sensor system is not active when the vehicle is in drive. If the problem still exists, recheck the wires in your junction box. It is possible they were crossed (often the green and brown wires get mixed up).
