Global Sensor Systems and OMS Express collaborate to develop AI-Based SecurePath™ for military and commercial fleet safety with support from OVIN

MISSISSAUGA, ON, AUGUST 13, 2025 -- Global Sensor Systems Inc. (GSSI) a Canadian innovator in fleet safety solutions, has partnered with OMS Express to develop SecurePath™, a next-generation automatic braking system designed to prevent low-speed reversing collisions for commercial fleets, one of the most persistent and dangerous job site incidents. With support from the Government of Ontario through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN), the project has a total value of over $331,000, including $100,000 in provincial funding and over $231,000 in industry contributions from GSSI and OMS Express.

“By investing in homegrown innovation and helping local companies compete in global markets, Ontario is protecting the future of our automotive sector and ensuring the cars of the future are made in Ontario, by Ontario workers,” said Victor Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “Through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network, our government is strengthening our domestic supply chain, driving competitiveness and resilience, and creating good-paying jobs that will withstand this storm of tariffs and economic uncertainty.”

SecurePath™, GSSI’s newest braking solution, is a modular, fully customizable, and integrated system. It uses multiple sensor technologies, including LIDAR, Time-of-Flight, Digital Camera, and Advanced Sensor Fusion Algorithms to accurately monitor a vehicle's surroundings. This layered sensing is paired with an onboard AI processor that enables predictive alerts, reverse speed control, and customized warning settings for drivers. The system also includes a memory-based learning function that stores physical layouts and obstacle profiles, minimizing false warnings in familiar environments.

With programmable reverse braking logic, SecurePath™ allows for tailored user specifications across a wide array of commercial fleets, including speed limits, detection zones, and warning thresholds. This gives fleets increased oversight and standardization across their operations, whether for airbrake or hydraulic-brake vehicles.

As commercial fleets across North America confront growing safety concerns and cost pressures, SecurePath™ provides a next-gen solution to reduce accidents. These collisions are common across various industries, particularly in high-density operational zones with limited visibility and elevated risk to people and infrastructure. These accidents do not just lead to tragedies but often lead to vehicle damage, injury, and operational delays, especially in dense, high-risk environments such as warehouses, loading zones, and construction sites.

The technology behind SecurePath™ reflects GSSI's deep experience in real-world fleet safety challenges. By integrating memory-driven location recognition, the system can identify recurring hazard patterns in specific environments and adjust alert behaviour accordingly. The platform also includes features that compensate for external conditions such as dust and precipitation, ensuring accurate detection, fleet-wide visibility and operational coherence.

With a strong presence across North America, GSSI has been advancing fleet safety for over 45 years. The company has installed thousands of systems for major municipalities and commercial fleets—including New York City—playing a pivotal role in reducing low-speed backing collisions.

Designed and manufactured in Ontario, SecurePath™ is poised to strengthen the province’s innovation ecosystem. It supports high-skill job creation, enables domestic manufacturing and software development, and showcases Ontario’s leadership in next-generation mobility technologies.

Through the OVIN R&D Partnership Fund, this collaboration has enabled the company to scale testing efforts and expedite prototyping for final deployment.
